CLUB
DETAILS
Full Name: Past Brothers Rugby League Club.
Nickname: The Brethren or Leprechauns.
Colours: Blue and White (Butcher Stripes).
Former Home Grounds: Corbett Park, Crosby Park (1989 to 1992 & 1998), Lang Park (1993), Bray
Park (1994 to 1997) and ANZ Stadium (1998).
Former Name: Merthyrs.
First Season in BRL: 1917.
Last Year in BRL & Qld Cup: 1998.
Reason why they left: Financial reasons. Brothers
had been struggling financially since the introduction of the
Brisbane Broncos in 1988 and it eventually took its toll in
1998. The Brethren tried to relocate to Pine Rivers then affiliated
with the Broncos but to no avail. However, seemly out of financial
trouble, Brothers tried for applications into the 2000 and 2001
Queensland Cup competition but both were rejected by the QRL.
Brothers and Valleys joined forces in 2002 to form Brothers-Valleys.
