Half-time: Toowoomba 2-0
Comments: Toowoomba won the
inaugural competition following one of the best
defensive efforts by a team in a grand final. Some
desperate defence by the Clydesdales in the final
minutes prevented Redcliffe twice from scoring the
match-winning try. Fullback Kyle Warren brought down
Peter Robinson just before the line, knocking himself
unconscious in the process, while Dolphin Centre
Cameron Hurren had the ball knocked out of his arms,
just moments later, as he went over the try line.
There was not a lot between the two sides and that was
exemplified by the half time score of 2-0. However,
Toowoomba just produced a little more desperation in
defence on the day and the Darling Downs City went
home with the 1996 Qld Cup.
