1999 Queensland Cup
Round 18: July 17, 18

1999 Queensland Cup information is thanks to BroncoNet.

Norths Devils 36
Tries:
Tasesa Lavea 2, Tristan Brady-Smith, Steve Bell, Andrew Duncan, Wayne Evans, Matt Bickerstaff
Goals:
John Wilshere 4
defeated
Wests Panthers 30
Tries:
Daniel Strictland 2, Craig Bowen, Craig Smith, George Gatis
Goals:
George Gatis 5
Venue:
Purtell Park
Date:
Sat July 17
Chris' Comments: A very entertaining game, if somewhat lacking defensive intensity.  Wests jumped to a 12-0 lead early on, but Norths came back to level and then go ahead.  It then became a tit for tat contest, with the lead changing several times before Norths escaped with a last minute try to Duncan.

Redcliffe Dolphins 52
Tries:
Ben Roedder 3, Rod West 2, Adam Mogg, Mixie Lui, Trent Leis, Chris Essex, Grant Flugge
Goals:
Michael Roberts 6
defeated
Souths Magpies 0
Venue:
Davies Park
Date:
Sat July 17
Chris' Comments: The hapless Magpies continue on their road to oblivion.  Redcliffe took top spot on differential with this victory.

Wynnum Seagulls 24
Tries:
Matt Fisher 2, David Seage, Danny Grimley, Wairangi Koopu
Goals:
Gene Ngamu 2
defeated
Cairns Cyclones 16
Tries:
Greg Bourke, Michael Coorey, Chris Muckert
Goals:
Greg Bourke 2
Venue:
Barlow Park
Date:
Sat July 17
Chris' Comments: It's not hard to see why Wynnum are revitalised with players of the calibre of Gene Ngamu playing for them!  Cairns' inconsistent form continues.

Burleigh Bears 36
Tries:
Darren Anderson 2, Aaron Douglas, Faron Anderson, Grant Adamson, Shane O'Flanagan, Tony Priddle
Goals:
Ben Lythe 4
defeated
Central Capras 22
Tries:
Clint Rothery 2, Jason Allen 2, Sami Chamoun
Goals:
Graham White
Venue:
Pizzey Park
Date:
Sat July 17
Chris' Comments: Burleigh again came away with the win, but again it wasn't in the most convincing fashion.  In fact, their softness in defence allowed Redcliffe to pass them for the competition lead.  A bright point for Central was the rise of Craig (I think) Rothery, younger brother of Balmain and former Bronco winger Wade Rothery, scoring 2 tries.

Logan Scorpions 20
Tries:
Ross Fisher, Royce Simms, Darren Crilley, Scott Maguire
Goals:
Ross Fisher 2
defeated
Ipswich Jets 18
Tries:
Adam Hutchison, Craig Wehrman, Jason Twist
Goals:
Chris Lawler 3
Venue:
Meakin Park
Date:
Sun July 18
Chris' Comments: Logan barely kept in the finals race with a fortunate escape against Ipswich.  The Scorpions remain 4 points behind Toowoomba in fifth, but they could easily have seen their season dashed in one go.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 42
Tries:
Craig Frawley 2, Danny Bampton 2, Ashley Harrison, Dane Carlaw, Damon Keating
Goals:
Jace Van Dijk 7
defeated
Easts Tigers 14
Tries:
Peter Turner, Scott Sipple, Jeff Doyle
Goals:
Darren Ireland
Venue:
Langlands Park
Date:
Sun July 18
Chris' Comments: This was arguably Toowoomba's most convincing effort.  After an ordinary capitulation against Logan City a week earlier, the Clydesdales really put the sword to Easts, who could've passed them with a victory.
