1999 Queensland Cup
Round 9: May 8, 9

1999 Queensland Cup information is thanks to BroncoNet.

Redcliffe Dolphins 24
Tries: Michael Roberts 2, Mixie Lui, Trent Clayton
Goals: Michael Roberts 4
defeated Wests Panthers 18
Tries: Sam Faalafi 2, Robert Campbell
Goals: James Brown 3
Venue: Purtell Park
Date: Sat May 7
Chris' Comments: Once again after giving away an early lead Redcliffe hit back with three tries late in the first half.  Wests led 4-0 early but went into half time down 22-6.  That was just too much to make up against a red hot Redcliffe side in muddy conditions at Purtell Park.

Logan City Scorpions 20
Tries: Grant Dutton, Phil Shilvock, Neil Shave, Brett Simmonds
Goals: Grant Dutton, Scott Maguire
defeated Cairns Cyclones 18
Tries: Michael Coorey, Scott Mahon, Leigh McWilliams, Leon Yeatman
Goals: Nathan Fein
Venue: Barlow Park
Date: Sat May 7
Chris' Comments: Logan continue to be impressive without being outstanding.  They will continue to cause problems for the big teams with their flamboyant style of play.

Central Queensland Capras 34
Tries: Craig Allen 2, Jason Allen, Brad Neven, Clint Rothery, Graham White
Goals: Graham White 5
defeated Ipswich Jets 18
Tries: Craig Green, Chris Lawler, Craig Wehrman, Scott Ward
Goals: Chris Lawler
Venue: Browne Park
Date: Sat May 7
Chris' Comments: Ipswich continue to struggle despite new coach Bill Gardner taking over last week.  Gardner has good credentials in the Qld Cup and for the Broncos reserve graders and is well and truly capable of turning things around.  However, they let in too many points in the first half, allowing Central to a 20-4 lead.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 22
Tries: Brad Thompson 2, Craig Frawley, Ashley Harrison, Andrew Robinson
Goals: Craig Frawley
defeated Souths Magpies 14
Tries: Darren Lawson, Ross Chatfield
Goals: Daniel Ivan 2, Andrew Murdoch
Venue: ANZ Stadium
Date: Sun May 8
Chris' Comments: The scoreline flattered Souths a little.  Toowoomba were never in danger and when they led 22-8 early in the second half, they clocked off.  Souths showed plenty of character, and signs that they may be able so salvage some pride in season 1999.

Easts Tigers 56
Tries: Paul Hubbard 2, Chris Beattie 2, Peter Turner 2, Graham Cotter 2, Brett McPherson, Dion Cope
Goals: Scott Thorburn 8
defeated Wynnum Seagulls 8
Tries: Brett Bowman, Danny Grimley
Venue: Langlands Park
Date: Sun May 8
Chris' Comments: Wynnum's demise is almost as tragic as the demise of the great Souths club.  Easts still have the ability to rack up big scores against lesser opposition, but they've shown they struggle against the big three, Burleigh, Redcliffe and Norths.

Burleigh Bears 28
Tries: Aaron Douglas 2, Frank Napoli, Faron Anderson, Ali Brown
Goals: Ben Lythe 4
defeated Norths Devils 18
Tries: John Wilshere, Mark Protheroe, Daniel Frame
Goals: John Wilshere 3
Venue: Pizzey Park
Date: Sun Apr 25
Chris' Comments: Burleigh have continued their unbelievable form in 1999.  They're now unbeaten in the Queensland Cup, Under 19 and A Grade competitions!  Next week's clash with Redcliffe will be an absolute doozy.
