A brilliant game of footy that ended in a
thrilling 24-all draw. The game was
played in front of a big crowd at Browne
Park, when I arrived at the ground at
about half an hour before kick-off just
about the whole of the grandstand was
full, I was lucky that there was a few
spots still at the back of the
grandstand. One of the great things about
sitting in the grandstand is that you
have a great view of the whole of the
field but if you are to far up the back
you can't see the fireworks. Both sides scored 4
tries and four kicks at goal, the Comets
had 4 tries and 4 conversions and the
Devils had 4 tries, 3 conversions and a
penalty goal.
At half
time the Devils were leading 16 to 12.
The Devils got of to a great start with
one of the Comets players dropping the
ball on the first set of six, in the next
set of six the Devils were over the line.
In the
next few minutes Comets scored 2 tries to
be leading 12 to 6. The Devils scored
again and just before halftime to go in
to the break with a 16 to 12 lead.
In the
next half the Comets got over the line
first to take the score to 18 to 16.
Devils soon scored to go to 22 to
18.
In the
second half around about 15 minutes
before fulltime (I think it was), Comets
winger Heath Egglestone got the award for
hit of the match as he stoped one of the
Devils forwards in his tracks with a huge
shoulder charge that knocked the Devils
forward to the ground and bought a huge
roar from the crowd.
The final
10 minutes was blooding pumping stuff.
Comets scored about six minutes from
fulltime to take the score to 24 to 22,
but in the final minute the Devils got a
penalty for some stupid reason, (no joke)
the ref had a Devils jersey on all night.
The Devils converted the penalty goal and
the game ended in a 24 all draw.
The one
point from the match means that the
Comets are still in with chance for a
semi-final spot. In the next round we
play Ipswich away, then Toowoomba and
Burleigh at home and finally Easts away
so we still have a good chance of making
the semi-finals.
