Half-time: Redcliffe 18-8

A relatively small crowd turned up to Bishop Park to watch archrivals, Norths and Redcliffe, battle it out. Games between these two sides are normally tough and intense battles and tonight's encounter would be no different. Norths have easily beaten their first two opponents while Redcliffe struggled to overcome Wests and lost to Souths, so Norths would have been the favourites to take this match. However, rugby league can be a funny game and both sides would have to work hard to earn the two points.

A good omen to Redcliffe, before the Bundy Gold Cup match started, was the fact that the A-Grade and Colts sides won their respective games over Norths Devils sides. The A-Grade match was an interesting match with Redcliffe getting home narrowly. The Dolphin led 8-2 at half-time but Norths came out blazing in the second half and raced to a 18-8 lead. However, Redcliffe came back to draw the game 18-18 and Dolphins 5/8th, Matt Lapworth, kicked a field goal to put Redcliffe one point ahead. The Dolphins scored a try on full-time to escape with a seven point victory.

The game kicked off with Redcliffe getting off a great start. Some superb passing saw a perfectly executed try to Glen Air. Michael Roberts added the extras. Norths scored shortly after to bring the score to 6-4. However, Redcliffe would score another two tries to take a 18-8 half-time lead.

Norths were the next to score but it was clear that goal kicking was a problem with the Devils, as Brad Watts was not kicking well. After, Peter Robinson scored his second try for Norths, the Devils started to seize control of the game. However, a combination of errors and defiant Dolphins' defence saw them miss the opportunity to grab the lead in the match for the first time.

Once Ata Isarabhakdi raced over to put the Dolphins to a 30-20 lead, the game was over although the Devils scored a consolation try to add a bit of respectability to the score.

All in all, both teams scored 5 tries but it was Michael Roberts' goal kicking that got the Dolphins over the line. Norths suffered from fundamental mistakes and Redcliffe were an improvement, on what I've seen so far in this season. Although they looked vulnerable out wide, Redcliffe's front row were impressive especially new recruit Adam Starr.

Norths now play Wests and should take out the points there, while Redcliffe should overcome the improved Jets at Dolphin Oval.
