Toowoomba
Clydesdales 24
Tries: Carl Webb 2, Alex
Wilson, Brent Tate, Dennis White
Goals: Jace
Van Dijk, Ben Walker
defeated Wests
Panthers 14
Tries: John
Bruce 2, Semi Tadulala
Goals: Brent Webb
Venue: Purtell
Park
Date: Sat May 13
Comments: Toowoomba ended up
winning the game but it was not one of
their better performances. Wests lost
their half-back, Shane Hamilton, to
injury in the opening minutes of the
game. The Clydesdales scored the first
points but it should not been ruled a try
as there was a knock-on by.
None-the-less, referee Paul Oliver ruled
a try to Brent Tate much to the disgust
of the Wests' supporters. The Panthers
scored the next two tries and a penalty
goal to Brent Webb put them 10-4 in
front. However, another doubtful try for
Carl Webb to Toowoomba and tied the score
up at 10 all at half-time. Toowoomba came
out firing and immediately seized control
of the game in the opening 20 minutes of
the second half. They scored three tries
and put the game beyond the home sides'
reach. Wests scored a consolation try but
the Clydesdales ran out 24-14 winners. Wests put in a courageous effort and were
let down by poor passing and dud
refereeing decisions.
Central Queensland
Comets 24
Tries: Darren
Atkinson, Clint Rothery, Ken Graham, Ian
Dunemann, Kere Parata
Goals: Ken Graham 2
defeated Logan City
Scorpions 14
Tries: David
Bouveng, Damien Flint, Charles Kennedy
Goals: Grant Dutton
Venue: Browne Park
Date:
Sat May 13
Comments: The Central
Comets have finally scored a win and it
breaks their six game losing streak. It
was deadlocked 10 all at half-time but
the Comets came home well to score a much
needed win. A loss for the Scorpions will
put a big dent in their already slim
hopes of making the semi-finals for the
first ever time.
Norths Devils 38
Tries: Andrew
Duncan 2, Ben Cameron, John Richmond,
Fifita Moala, Steve Bell, Ryan Gundry,
Liam Tallon
Goals: Ryan Gundry 2, Glen Turner
defeated
Cairns Cyclones 12
Tries: Ty
Walter, Leon Yeatman
Goals: Scott
Williamson 2
Venue: Vico Park
Date: Sun May 14
Comments: The Cyclones
playing this game at the home of the
Kangaroos which compete in the Cairns
District Rugby League. Alas, it still
didn't stop the Devils from racking up a
big score against the home side.
Ipswich Jets 36
Tries: Francis Renouf 2,
Craig Green, Danny Coburn, Dale
Robertson, Brad Bulow, Jason Twist
Goals: Chris Lawler 4
defeated Wynnum
Seagulls 12
Tries: Ricky Taylor, Matt Fisher
Goals: Alan
Glyde 2
Venue: First Provincial Oval
Date: Sun May 14
Comments: Ipswich were
expected to win this game but it looks
like they did it pretty easily. The
Seagulls continue to churn out
disappointing performances after putting
in a spirited one the week or two before
that. The Jets are now level with
Burleigh but just sit outside the top
five due to for and against.
Easts Tigers 32
Tries: Gavin Allan, David
Baildon, Scott Thorburn, Mark Mom, Wade Liddell
Goals: John
Wilshere 6
defeated
Burleigh Bears 30
Tries: Aaron Douglas 2,
Darren Anderson, Jim Lenihan, Nick Shaw
Goals: Darren
Anderson 5
Venue: Langlands Park
Date: Sun May 14
Comments: The Tigers got
home by a John Wilshere penalty goal
right on fulltime in a high scoring
affair. Easts got off to a bad start and
were trailing by 16-4 at one stage in the
first half. The Bears led 22-14 at the
break but could not go on with the job
and let the Tigers back in the match. With the score tied 30 all, it was
looking like a draw would be the result
but Wilshere kicked the goal and the
Tigers scraped home by the narrowest of
margins. Burleigh will probably be
disappointed with the result as they had
a good opportunity to put away the home
side but were unable to claim the two
points. They still remain in the top five
on for and against.
Redcliffe Dolphins 27
Tries: Barry Denduck 2,
Trent Leis 2, John Olzard
Goals: Damien Richters 3
Field Goals: Rob Campbell
defeated Souths
Magpies 14
Tries: Jacob Christie,
Andrew Murdoch
Goals: David Mulhall 3
Venue: Davies Park
Date: Sun May 14
Comments: Redcliffe
continue on their merry way with another
win over the Souths Magpies. The Magpies
were able to upset the Dolphins earlier
on in the year but were unable to repeat
that performance. They skipped to 14-2
lead at half-time but the home side
fought back to 20-14. However,
Redcliffe's Rob Campbell popped over a
field goal to put the Dolphins' out to a
7 point lead and Souths had to score
twice to win the game. They couldn't and
Redcliffe ended up scoring another try
and won the game by 13 points.
