2000 Queensland Cup
Round 13: May 20, 21

Logan City Scorpions 18
Tries: Grant Dutton, Phil Shilvock, Dene Rauchle, Damien Flint
Goals: Grant Dutton
drew with Burleigh Bears 18
Tries: Aaron Douglas, Grant Adamson, Jim Lenihan, Shane O'Flanagan
Goals:
Darren Anderson
Venue: Meakin Park
Date: Sat May 20

Comments:
A courageous and gutsy effort by Logan to grab a draw against the Burleigh Bears.  The Scorpions got off to a bad start and the Bears scored two tries in the opening 10 minutes of the game.  Logan were found wanting out wide and Aaron Douglas scored the first try for Burleigh.  Minutes later, the bald headed Bears' captain Grant Adamson was seemly put down in a tackle at Logan's line but somehow placed the ball on the line for a try.  However, the home side struck back to only trail 10-8 at half-time.  Grant Dutton scored Logan's first try when he ran through a gaping hole to put the ball over the line while Phil Shilvock scored in the corner to peg Burleigh's lead back to 2.

Logan came out with all guns firing with two tries in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.  Grant Dutton popped a magnificent pass to forward Dene Rauchle and he raced in to put the Scorpions in front for the first time of the match.  They stretched the lead to 8 when Damien Flint finished off a well constructed try.  However, the Bears came out of hibernation and minutes later, Jim Lenihan again found a weakness out wide to score their first points in the half.  They levelled the score up when big Burleigh forward Shane O'Flanagan brushed off several defenders and score a crucial try.  With the score tied up 18 all, the game hung in the balance. However, neither side could put on the finishing touch and the game ended up a draw.

Wests Panthers 26
Tries: Aaron Morgan, Jason Bulgarelli, Paul Mitchell, Craig Smith
Goals: Brent Webb 4, Nathan Burke
drew with Souths Magpies 26
Tries: Henry Fa'afili 2, Grant Astill, Mohammed Allouche, Andrew Murdoch
Goals:
David Mulhall 3
Venue: Purtell Park
Date: Sat May 20
Comments: Another draw for the week.  The Panthers were expected to give Souths a run for their money and secured a draw at home.  Wests' forward Craig Smith ran onto a pass from Ben Willis and scored between the posts on fulltime. Nathan Burke converted the try and the game ended up a draw.  The Magpies will be ruing the draw as it was a game they should have probably won.  Wests continue their good form of late and will be a nuisance value to the higher ranked sides.

Cairns Cyclones 26
Tries: Victor Akiba, Clint Arnol, Shannon Furber, Jason Berg
Goals: Scott Williamson 5
defeated Ipswich Jets 22
Tries: Francis Renouf, Russell Bussian, Andrew Hamilton, Brian McCarthy
Goals: Chris Lawler 3
Venue: Atherton Showgrounds
Date: Sat May 20
Comments: One of the biggest upsets of the year!!  The Cairns Cyclones have scored an unlikely win over Ipswich, who were sitting in 6th place on the table.  The result means Cairns have scored their second win of the year while the Jets' chances of making the finals are dented heavily.

Central Queensland Comets 38
Tries: Wade Rothery 3, Justin Loomans, David Smith, Andrew Schick, Matt Barclay
Goals: Ken Graham 4, Graham White
defeated Wynnum Seagulls 18
Tries: Ricky Taylor, Adam Cook-Watene, Lance Cronk
Goals: Jay O'Doherty 3
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date:
Sun May 21
Comments: Central's away hoodoo has been broken with this crushing win over the hapless Seagulls.  This was a game that the Comets were always likely to win and they did so easily.  Wynnum's miserable season continues and with Cairns securing a win over the weekend, they are short priced favourites to take out the wooden spoon.

Redcliffe Dolphins 46
Tries: Damien Richters 2, Adam Mogg, George Saleh, Russell Lahiff, Trent Leis, Barry Denduck, Michael Roberts
Goals: Damien Richters 7
defeated Norths Devils 16
Tries: Ashley Dudson, Paul Sheedy, Liam Tallon
Goals: Ryan Gundry 2
Venue: Dolphin Oval
Date:
Sun May 21
Comments: A crushing win to Redcliffe against a severely weakened Norths outfit.  A nice crowd of between 1000-1500 at Dolphin Oval saw the home side turn it on against their rivals.  The Dolphins scored two quick tries to Damien Richters and Trent Leis before the Devils struck back with Ashley Dudson scoring in the corner. However, from that point onwards it was all Redcliffe from there.  The Dolphins took a 22-4 lead with two well constructed 4 pointers to Adam Mogg and Richters.  The onslaught continued in the second half and the home side scored 4 more tries to run out comfortable victors.  Norths were obviously struggling without their better players and were put to the sword by the home side.  Redcliffe now has to wait for the outcome of the Toowoomba/Easts game to see if they become outright leaders in the Bundy Gold Cup.

Easts Tigers 30
Tries: Brook Martin 2, David Baildon, Brett McPherson, Wade Liddell
Goals: John Wilshere 5
defeated Toowoomba Clydesdales 16
Tries: Adam Warwick, Ben Walker, Harvey Howard
Goals: Adam Warwick, Ben Walker
Venue: Athletic Oval
Date: Sun May 21
Comments: Easts handed Toowoomba their third loss of the season when the Tigers beat the home side by 14 points.  The loss also means that the Clydesdales lose top spot to Redcliffe.  Toowoomba were obviously affected by the loss of top line players to the Broncos and Easts took advantage of that.  Even though the home side still had experienced players such as Ben Walker, Harvey Howard and Kerrod Walters, it wasn't enough to overcome the Tigers.
