Souths Magpies 30

Goals: David Mulhall 5
defeated North Devils 25
Tries: Andrew Duncan, Daniel Hill, Chris Essex, Ashley Dudson
Goals:
Marty Turner 3, Liam Tallon
Field Goals: Marty Turner
Venue: Davies Park
Date: Sat June 3

Comments:
Well, what a very exciting finish to this game in a otherwise ordinary game. Norths got off to a good start when Andrew Duncan scored a try in the corner after 4 minutes. That lead was increased by 2 when Marty Turner slotted over a penalty goal due to a stripping penalty against Magpies' forward, Mohammed Allouche. The Devils scored another try 6 minutes late when Daniel Hill followed a chip kick he made and pounced on the ball. Confounding Souths' woes, David Mulhall was sent to the sinbin for dissent by the referee. The Magpies were pretty awful in execution and they completed less than half of their sets of six in the first half. However, they scored just before halftime after Mulhall made a great break and he passed the ball to Nathan Squassoni and he planted the ball down. Norths led 12-6 at the break.

Norths got back out to a 12 point lead when Chris Essex scored. Magpies' fullback David Mulhall threw a very way would pass and Michael Jack juggled the ball before Essex got a hold of the ball. Mulhall made up that error with a well constructed try to put Souths within reach again. However, the Devils scored the next try thanks to a clever chip kick by Ryan Gundry. Ashley Dudson picked up the ball and placed in the corner. Turner converted from the sideline and Norths led 24-12. But the Magpies would not lie down without a fight. A impressive bust by Josh Stowers threw it to Mulhall who passed it Grant Astill and he scored the try. Stowers played a major part in the next try when he pushed through Norths' defence and went over to put Souths well in truly back in the game. Mulhall converted and it was 24 all with 14 minutes to go. With 5 minutes to go on the clock, Marty Turner calmly put a field goal through the sticks to give the Devils a one point lead. Unfortunately for them, Monty Betham pushed his way through and planted the ball on the line right on fulltime. Souths had trailed for all the match but they led where it matters most: at fulltime.

Ipswich Jets 34
Tries: Brian McCarthy 2, Craig Green, Junior Togia, Ross Mitchell, Nick Hall
Goals: Chris Lawler 5
defeated Wests Panthers 6
Tries:
Semi Tadulala
Goals: Nathan Webber
Venue: Purtell Park
Date: Sat June 3
Comments: A good bounce back by Ipswich keeps them still in contention of a top five spot. The Jets powered home after leading 12-6 at halftime. Wests would have to be disappointed with that effort as they have been on the improve in the second half of the season.

Burleigh Bears 34
Tries: Reggie Cressbrook 2, Jim Lenihan 2, David Parker 2, Ali Brown
Goals: Reggie Cressbrook 3
defeated Cairns Cyclones 6
Tries: Patrick Gardner
Goals: Kerry Amory
Venue: Mossman Showgrounds
Date: Sat June 3
Comments: Burleigh were never expected to be troubled by the Cairns Cyclones and got away with a 28 point win up in Mossman. The Bears now leap frog Norths into fourth spot while the luckless Cairns continue to languish in second last place.

Redcliffe Dolphins 22
Tries: Rob Campbell, Damien Richters, Scott Marks
Goals: Damien Richters 4, Michael Roberts
defeated Central Queensland Comets 12
Tries: Justin Loomans, David Smith
Goals: Ken Graham 2
Venue: Dolphin Oval
Date:
Sun June 4
Comments: The Dolphins continue on their winning streak defeating the Central Comets to chalk up victory number 11 in a row. Redcliffe got off to a good start with a try to Rob Campbell and Damien Richters extended that lead to 8, moments later, due to penalty goal. However, the Comets hit back due to a try to Justin Loomans and snatched the lead just before halftime, courtesy of a four pointer to David Smith. The Dolphins dominated the second half and showed why they are on top of the Bundy Gold Cup. Damien Richters put the home side back in front after beautifully converting his own try. He added yet another penalty goal and the Dolphins virtually wrapped up the game with a try to Scott Marks, who was making his 1st Grade debut. Michael Roberts slotted through a penalty goal and Redcliffe had scored a 10 point victory. The Comets were at times ill disciplined and erratic and fell to pieces in the second half, giving the game to Redcliffe.

Logan City Scorpions 30
Tries: David Bouveng, Terry O'Regan, Grant Dutton, Damien Durnford, Nick Meyers
Goals: Grant Dutton 5
defeated Toowoomba Clydesdales 24
Tries: Paul Warwick 3, Clint Greenshields, Junior Pelesasa
Goals: Paul Warwick 2
Venue: Cahill Park, Gatton
Date:
Sun June 4
Comments: Logan have finally chalked up a win against one of the top five sides but it was against Toowoomba at their most vulnerable. The Clydesdales put up a spirited performance but the boot of Grant Dutton got the Scorpions with both teams scoring five tries each. The Clydesdales now slip to third but will have most of their top line players back on deck for the rest of the year. Logan are still snapping at the heals and need to keep winning games in a slim hope of making the semi-finals.

Easts Tigers 28
Tries: Brooke Martin 2, Matt Bickerstaff, Jeff Doyle
Goals: Scott Thorburn 6
defeated Wynnum Seagulls 26
Tries: Lance Cronk 2, Alan Glyde, David Seage, Matt Fisher
Goals: Dallas McIllwain 3
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date: Sun June 4
Comments: Easts somehow escaped with a two point win having trailed by 10 with 10 minutes to go on the clock. Brook Martin scored the two late tries and broke the hearts of the gallant Seagulls, who were trying to cap off the clubs' 50th Anniversary celebrations with their first win of the season. Unfortunately, it was not to be, and the Tigers left Kougari Oval with the two points.
