2000 Queensland Cup
Round 16: June 10, 11

North Devils 30
Tries: Kevin Carmichael 2, Paul Sheedy, Steve Bell, Terry Benson
Goals: Marty Turner 4, Glen Turner
defeated Toowoomba Clydesdales 6
Tries: Dennis White
Goals:
Paul Warwick
Venue: Bishop Park
Date: Sat June 10

Comments:
Norths have gained revenge on Toowoomba for that 48 point humiliation in the first half of the season with a good win at home. The Devils got off to a slow start but managed to put on the first points with a fantastic chip and chase by Paul Sheedy who eventually scored the try. However, Toowoomba stuck back shortly after with a try to Dennis White. Norths led 12-6 at halftime. The Devils cruised away from the inexperienced Clydesdales in the second half with captain, Kevin Carmichael bagging two tries and Terry Benson grabbing the other while Marty Turner put in a superb kicking display with three beautiful conversions from the sideline. The real stars for Norths were the halves, Steve Bell and Kevin Carmichael. Bell has been in terrific form ever since he has switched to five eighth and showed that he should belong in that position for the rest of the year. Toowoomba still retain 3rd spot but there are worrying signs for the coaching staff as things are not quite rosy for the team tutored to be the premiership favourites. Norths, on the other hand, look to be back in form and will continue to press for another grand final berth which they are most capable of doing.

Wynnum Seagulls 22
Tries: Alan Glyde, Anthony Choice, Dallas McIllwain, Ron Troutman
Goals: Peter Stoddart 3
defeated Logan City Scorpions 14
Tries:
Sean Ireland, David Bouveng, Charles Kennedy
Goals: Grant Dutton
Venue: Meakin Park
Date: Sat June 10
Comments: Congratulations go to the Seagulls for finally winning their first game of the year. A win was going to come eventually given the close losses they have played in throughout the year. It was 6 all at the break and Wynnum went on with the job in the second half to sow up the victory. As for the Scorpions, you could just about say their season is just about over. They really needed to win that game to stay in touch and they didn't so Logan will have to wait until next year for yet another tilt at getting to the semi-finals.

Ipswich Jets 28
Tries: Adam Hutchinson 2, Francis Renouf, Nick Hall
Goals: Chris Lawler 6
defeated Souths Magpies 18
Tries: David Mulhall, Francis Meli, Nathan Squassoni
Goals: David Mulhall 3
Venue: First Provincial Oval
Date: Sat June 10
Comments: Out of all the sides threatening to knock any of the current sides out of the top 5, Ipswich are most likely of doing so. The Jets secured a win against the Magpies at home and still lie 2 points adrift of Norths. In what has been an inconsistent year for Souths, this disappointing loss means that they are well and truly out of the race for the semi-finals.

Central Queensland Comets 32
Tries: Wade Rothery, Justin Loomans, Ken Graham, Heath Egglestone, Ian Dunemann, Kere Parata, Graham White
Goals: Ken Graham 2
defeated Wests Panthers 14
Tries: Nathan Webber, Jason Bulgarelli, Craig Smith
Goals: Nathan Webber
Venue: Browne Park
Date:
Sat June 10
Comments: Central scored a pretty comfortable victory against Wests at home and it keeps them in touch with the top 5. The Comets avenged their shock loss against the Panthers earlier on in the year. Poor goal kicking from the home side saved Wests from a even bigger loss.

Burleigh Bears 22
Tries: Reggie Cressbrook, Jim Lenihan, Aaron Douglas, Grant Adamson
Goals: Reggie Cressbrook 3
defeated Redcliffe Dolphins 0
Venue: Pizzey Park
Date:
Sun June 11
Comments: They're back!! The Bears gave plenty of reasons why they should not be taken lightly as premiership contenders as Redcliffe found out on Sunday. The Dolphins failed to penetrate the Burleigh defence at all and the home side led 10-0 at halftime before going on with the job in the second half to score a very good win. Not only did the loss end Redcliffe's 11 game winning streak, it also resulted in the side losing top place on the ladder to the Tigers. The Bears seem to be on the rise just at the right time and look to be ready to try to successfully defend their premiership. As for Redcliffe, this a well timed wake-up call as they have been not been in the best of form in recent times.

Easts Tigers 78
Tries: Jason Wendt 3, Paul Hubbard 2, Brooke Martin 2, Brett McPherson 2, Jeff Doyle, Graham Cotter, George Gatis, Scott Thorburn, Marcus Jensen
Goals: Scott Thorburn 11
defeated Cairns Cyclones 4
Tries: Tim Kopp
Venue: Langlands Park
Date: Sun June 11
Comments: Put it this way, Cairns were just abysmal and Easts absolutely ran riot. The Tigers racked a record Bundy Gold Cup win and storm to the top of table on points differential, courtesy of Burleigh winning against Redcliffe.  Easts scored 14 tries with Jason Wendt bagging 3 and Scott Thorburn kicking 11 goals plus scoring a try. The Tigers led 34-4 at the break in terrible conditions at Langlands Park and cut sway through the awful Cyclones defence.  I shudder to think what score Easts may have got if the conditions were dry!!  Mark my words, the Cyclones WILL finish with the wooden spoon.
