Tigers 6
Tries: Brooke Martin
Goals: Scott Thorburn
Venue: Dolphin
Oval
Date: Sat June 17
Comments: A gutsy effort from
the Redcliffe side sees them reclaim top
spot on the Bundy Gold Cup ladder after a
2 point win over Easts. The Dolphins got
off to a good start when Duncan Naawi
pushed his way over the Tigers defenders
and over the line to score the try after
8 minutes into the game. Damien Richters
converted the try with a superb kick from
the sideline to give the home side an
early 6-0 lead. Neither side could crack
the line for the rest of the half and the defence from both teams was great
especially from Redcliffe who held out
countless Easts' raids. The Dolphins took
a 6-0 lead at halftime. The rain stopped in
the second half but the big hits,
handling errors and grinding defence.
Redcliffe extended their lead shortly
after the break when Graham Cotter was
penalised for lying all over opposition
prop Troy Lindsay. Richters added the 2
points and the home side took a 8-0 lead.
Easts finally got over the line in the
52th minute but it was from a Scott
Thorburn bomb. Thorburn put up a bomb and
it came off a Redcliffe player. Brooke
Martin scooped up the ball and placed it
under the sticks. Try converted and
Redcliffe's lead was reduced to 2. The
Tigers dominated the possession in the
second half but were constantly thwarted
by the opposition's superb defence. Easts
had one last tilt at drawing the game
when they received a penalty with about
one minute to go on the clock. Captain
Jeff Doyle decided to take the kick but
Thorburn missed the conversion giving
Redcliffe the win and top spot on the
table.
Burleigh Bears 28
Tries: Reggie

Hamish Smith, Jamie Mahon
Goals: Reggie Cressbrook 2
defeated Wests
Panthers 20
Tries: Aaron
Morgan, Jason Bulgarelli, Craig Smith,
Ben Willis
Goals: Nathan
Webber 2
Venue: Purtell Park
Date:
Sat June 17
Comments: Burleigh did
not secure victory over Wests until in
the final minutes of this match. The
Panthers have proven to be a handful to
the higher ranked sides at Purtell Park
but have failed to get over the line for
the win due to their inexperience. The
Bears retain fourth spot on the ladder
and look to have sewn up a finals spot.
Toowoomba
Clydesdales 36
Tries: Adam
Warwick 2, Justin Hodges 2, Alex Wilson 2
Goals: Jace Van Dijk 6
defeated
Wynnum Seagulls 28
Tries: Alan
Glyde, Lance Cronk, Jason Keough, Adam
Cook-Watene, John Plath
Goals: Dallas
McIllwain 4
Venue: ANZ Stadium
Date: Sun June 18
Comments: Wynnum put in
yet another spirited performance at ANZ
Stadium but were eventually run down by
the Clydesdales in the final 20 minutes
of the game. Toowoomba continue to
struggle with injuries and the loss of
players stepping up to the Brisbane
Broncos and were troubled by the bottom
ranked Seagulls. Wynnum second-rower Ryan
Asplett was sent off the field for a head
high tackle on a Toowoomba player and the
Clydesdales got home with the two points
in front of the Broncos' faithful.
Logan City Scorpions 50
Tries: Damien Flint 2,
Grant Dutton 2, Damien Durnford 2, Sean
Ireland, Phil Shilvock, Terry O'Regan,
Shaun McLean
Goals: Grant Dutton 5
defeated Cairns
Cyclones 22
Tries: Scott Williamson 2,
Jason Barsley, Mark Farkahua
Goals: Scott
Williamson 3
Venue: Smithfield Sports Complex
Date: Sun June 18
Comments: A easy win for
the Scorpions against the hapless Cairns.
Logan scored 10 tries with Damien Flint,
Grant Dutton and Damien Durnford all
grabbing doubles. The home side have
become the whipping boys of the Bundy
Gold Cup and were no match for their
opponents. The Scorpions led 28-16 at
halftime and went on with the job in the
second half to rack up a very comfortable
win.
Central Queensland
Comets 34
Tries: Justin Loomans 3,
Ian Dunemann 2, Heath Egglestone, David Smith
Goals: Ken
Graham 3
defeated
Souths Magpies 28
Tries: Francis Meli 2,
Paul Whatuira 2, Mohammad Allouche
Goals: Andrew
Murdoch 4
Venue: Davies Park
Date: Sun June 18
Comments: Central
continue to press their chances for a
finals berth with a win against the
Magpies. Justin Loomans scored three
tries and Ian Dunemann snatched a double
as the Comets narrowly got home with the
win. Again, poor goal kicking from the
Comets kept the Magpies in the game and
is something they must address quick
smart or they will lose close games
because of kicking. Unfortunately for
Souths, their season is coming to a
disappointing end.
Norths Devils 30
Tries: Terry Benson 2,
Brad Watts 2, Paul Sheedy, Steven Bell
Goals: Marty Turner 3
defeated Ipswich
Jets 16
Tries: Francis Renouf,
Andrew Hamilton, Danny McAllister
Goals: Chris
Lawler 2
Venue: Bishop Park
Date: Sun June 18
Comments: Norths have
just about sewn up a finals spot with a
win against the Jets who were threatening to push them out. The Devils
now are 4 points ahead of Ipswich and
Central on the table and a disaster has
to happen for them not to make the 5. The
Jets were leading in the first half and
the game locked at 16-16 with 29 minutes
to go. However, the class of the Devils
shone through and they skipped away from
Ipswich to secure a 14 point win. Sadly
for the Jets, the loss means their season
is just about over.
