2000 Queensland Cup
Round 18: June 24, 25

Redcliffe Dolphins 28
Tries: Adam Mogg, Robert Campbell, Damien Richters, Barry Denduck, Rod West
Goals: Damien Richters 4
defeated Logan City Scorpions 18
Tries: Sean Ireland, Charles Kennedy, Grant Dutton
Goals:
Grant Dutton 3
Venue: Meakin Park
Date: Sat June 24

Comments:
The Dolphins did not have it all their way through out this match but still managed to hang on for the win against Logan. Redcliffe got off to a shaky start by coughing up the ball twice in their own half but still put on the first points of the match when Adam Mogg ran off a pass from Danny Bourke to score under the posts. Minutes later, Rob Campbell barged over the line and the Dolphins had a 12-0 lead after 13 minutes of play. However, Logan struck back immediately thanks to a brilliant 90 metre effort from fullback Sean Ireland. Ireland picked up the ball, dummied through a gap and sprinted down the field untouched.

The Scorpions pegged the Dolphins' lead back to 2 when Charles Kennedy ran through a gap out wide and placed the ball over the line. Grant Dutton missed a relatively easy chance at goal but redeemed himself in the 30th minute when he kicked a penalty goal to draw level with the Dolphins. The home side thoroughly dominated possession in the first half (57% according the stats on TV) and should have really led at the break. However, the Dolphins kept them at bay and it was 12 all at halftime.

Eager to make up their mistakes in the first half, Redcliffe went on a scoring spree in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Damien Richters, Barry Denduck and Rod West all scored simple tries and each came off an error from the home side in their own half. Despite five-eighth Grant Dutton scoring a try in the 59th minute, the Scorpions could never really recover from that 10 minute onslaught from the Dolphins and they went down eventual 10 point losers. Redcliffe did not play that well but their opponents could never fully capitalize on the chances they were given. The loss means that Logan's chances of making the finals have now gone and will have to look to next year for yet another shot at semi-finals.

Burleigh Bears 44
Tries: Aaron Douglas 4, Nick Shaw 2, David Parker, Grant Adamson
Goals: Reggie Cressbrook 6
defeated Souths Magpies 6
Tries:
Josh Stowers
Goals: Andrew Murdoch
Venue: Pizzey Park
Date: Sat June 24
Comments: Burleigh are moving into full swing as the semi-finals approach with a hammering of the Souths Magpies at home. The premiers probably put in their best performance of the year with winger Aaron Douglas grabbing four tries. If there was any doubt of Burleigh making the semis then this performance has well in truly put this beyond doubt. The Magpies are fading away in the distance and would be looking forward to the end of the season.

Central Queensland Comets 24
Tries: David Smith 2, Ken Graham, Wade Rothery
Goals: Ken Graham 4
drew with Norths Devils 24
Tries: Steven Bell, Kevin Carmichael, Ashley Dudson, Matt Dux
Goals: Marty Turner 4
Venue: Browne Park
Date: Sat June 24
Comments: Heart break for the locals as the Devils managed to snatch a draw in the dying minutes of the game. A penalty goal to Norths, with one minute to go, did the trick and it still gives them a vital four point lead over the Comets on the ladder. Central really needed to win this game to keep in touch with the top 5 and a draw against Norths is not good enough. In front of the large home crowd at Rockhampton, the Comets had a very good chance of upsetting but the Devils performed a get-out-of-jail job and look to have finally sewn up the last place in the final 5.
Match Report

Easts Tigers 32
Tries: Brooke Martin 2, Aseri Laing, David Baildon, Scott Thorburn, George Gatis, Marcus Jensen
Goals: Scott Thorburn 2
defeated Wests Panthers 22
Tries: Semi Tadulala 2, Mark Eacott, Craig Smith
Goals: Nathan Webber 3
Venue: Langlands Park
Date:
Sun June 25
Comments: Easts retain second spot on the ladder with a win over Wests. The Tigers scored 7 tries with young centre Brooke Martin getting another 2 to extend his lead on the leading try scorers of the Bundy Gold Cup to 3. The Panthers were always going to find it a bit tough against the highly ranked Easts but didn't go away from Langlands entirely disgraced.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 30
Tries: Adam Warwick 2, Alex Wilson, Dennis White, Darren Mapp
Goals: Jace Van Dijk 4, Paul Warwick
defeated Ipswich Jets 24
Tries: Adam Hutchinson 2, Kerry Carmichael, Marshall Chalk, Karl Beaton
Goals: Chris Lawler 2
Venue: First Provincial Oval
Date:
Sun June 25
Comments: Toowoomba ended up winning the game but the Jets pushed them to the limits. The Clydesdales got off to a quick start by scoring the first two tries after 15 minutes had elapsed. The home side got themselves back into the match gradually and led up until the 67th minutes. Shortly after, Alex Wilson scored a Toowoomba try and Jace Van Dijk added the extras to draw the game 24 all. The Clydesdales wrapped up the game with a try and have dented any slim chance of the Jets making the semi-finals. All the media focus on this game was centred around the anticipated turn out of sacked Cowboy Paul Green for the Toowoomba Clydesdales. Apparently, he played pretty good.

Wynnum Seagulls 28
Tries: Alan Glyde, Anthony Choice, Ricky Taylor, John Plath, Luke Robison
Goals: Dallas McIllwain 4
defeated Cairns Cyclones 14
Tries: Clint Arnol, A Sexton
Goals: Kerry Amory 2, Scott Williamson
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date: Sun June 25
Comments: Wynnum have finally pulled themselves off the bottom of the ladder for the first time this year by defeating the Cyclones at home. This win should ensure that the Seagulls don't get the dreaded 'wooden spoon' for the year 2000 and rightly too, as Cairns has been have the worst performing side of the year.
