2000 Queensland Cup
Round 20: July 8, 9

Easts Tigers 18
Tries: Scott Thorburn 2, Wade Liddell
Goals: Scott Thorburn 3
defeated Norths Devils 14
Tries: Ashley Dudson 2, Matt Dux
Goals:
Marty Turner
Venue: Langlands Park
Date: Sat July 8

Comments:
The Tigers still remain in the hunt for the minor premiership following a narrow 4 point win over fifth placed, Norths. Scott Thorburn scored 2 early tries for Easts to lead 12-0 but the Devils came back with Ashley Dudson replying with 2 of his own to trail the home side by only 12-8 at the break. The home side extended their lead to 10 when Wade Liddell went in for a try, after the Tigers had won a scrum against the feed. Norths hit back in the 60th minute with a try to Matt Dux and the score became 18-14 in favour to Easts. However, the home side managed ward off the Devils attack for the rest of the match and eventually recorded a good victory.

Redcliffe Dolphins 54
Tries: Trent Purdon 2, Trent Leis 2, Rob Campbell 2, George Wilson, Rod West, Craig O'Dwyer, Damien Richters
Goals: Damien Richters 7
defeated Cairns Cyclones 20
Tries:
Ty Walter 2, Paul Fowler, Karl Dawson
Goals: Ty Walter 2
Venue: Alley Park, Gordonvale
Date: Sat July 8
Comments: The result of this game was never in doubt and the Dolphins cruised in for an easy win against the hapless Cyclones. Redcliffe still hold onto top spot and are inching closer to securing the minor premiership. The Dolphins led 32-0 at halftime and stepped off the accelerator a bit in the second half, letting the home side in for 20 points. As for the Cyclones, it is yet another thrashing and continues their woeful season.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 35
Tries: Dennis White 2, Adam Warwick, Ben Walker, Darren Mapp, Alex Wilson
Goals: Jace Van Dijk 4, Ben Walker
Field Goals: Ben Walker
defeated Central Queensland Comets 28
Tries: Justin Loomans 2, Clint Rothery 2, Ian Dunemann
Goals: Graham White 4
Venue: Browne Park
Date: Sat July 8
Comments: Toowoomba have snatched a 7 point victory in Rockhampton and have effectively ended the Comets' hopes of making the semi-finals. Disappointing the 3000 odd crowd that turned up at Browne Park, the Clydesdales scored a try and a field goal in the final three minutes to break a 28-all deadlock. The win means that Toowoomba look to have secured a top 3 position on the ladder following Burleigh's loss on the weekend. As for Central, it was another game that was there for the taking but they faulted in the final minutes to give the Clydesdales the win.

Logan City Scorpions 50
Tries: Charles Kennedy 3, David Tuqiri 3, Sean Ireland 2, Grant Dutton, Mick Georgis
Goals: Grant Dutton 4, Mick Georgis
defeated Souths Magpies 24
Tries: David Mulhall, Marco Peters, Andrew Murdoch, Jonathon Smith, Wayne Wilkinson
Goals: David Mulhall, Henry Perenara
Venue: Meakin Park
Date:
Sun July 9
Comments: The Logan Scorpions went on a 10 try romp as they tore apart the Magpies at their home ground. Charles Kennedy and David Tuqiri both scored three tries each and fullback, Sean Ireland, also got among the action with two of his own. The home side still remain in the hunt for a semi-final (although highly unlikely) with the side trailing the 5th placed Devils by 2 points. As for Souths, need I say any more!!!

Wynnum Seagulls 18
Tries: David Seage 2, Glen Butler
Goals: Dallas McIllwain 3
defeated Wests Panthers 10
Tries: Aaron Morgan, Nathan Webber
Goals: Nathan Webber
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date:
Sun July 9
Comments: Wynnum gained some revenge for Round 10's humiliation with a home win against the Panthers. The Seagulls have moved 3 points adrift of Cairns and have successfully avoided the wooden spoon.

Ipswich Jets 28
Tries: Russell Bussian 3, Marshall Chalk, Danny McAllister
Goals: Chris Lawler 4
defeated Burleigh Bears 18
Tries: Reggie Cressbrook, Grant Adamson, Nick Shaw
Goals: Reggie Cressbrook 3
Venue: Pizzey Park
Date: Sun July 9
Comments: A big upset and, considering Burleigh had won 6 games on the trot, a very good win by the Jets at Pizzey Park. While it is a big scalp, it's a bit too late for Ipswich to make the semi-finals and will rue their inconsistency throughout the whole season. The loss for the home side means that they will likely stay in 4th spot at the end of the preliminary rounds and face Norths in a knockout semi-final at home. Russell Bussian picked up 3 tries for the visitors.
