Comments: Well, what a thrilling
finish to this game!!! Robert Campbell
proved to be the unlikely hero for
Redcliffe when, in the dying minutes of
the game, he kicked a field goal to break
a 16-all deadlock. Mind you, the attempt
bounced off the right upright and through
posts (unlike Ben Walker's attempt,
minutes before, which bounced back into
play). The Dolphins were leading 16-0
early in the second half (having led 10-0
at halftime) but the Clydesdales staged a
miraculous comeback and they scored the
three next tries to tie up the game.
Toowoomba had all the momentum going
their way and were looking like snatching
the game out of Redcliffe's hands.
However, Campbell foiled them with his
freaky goal and the Dolphins got home by
the narrowest of margins. They now have
sealed up the minor premiership and will
have the first week off in the
semi-finals.
Wests Panthers 60
Tries: Semi
Tadulala 2, Tom Pritchard 2, Aaron
Morgan, Nathan Webber, Craig Bowen, Jason
Campbell, Paul Mitchell, Brent Webb, Mark Eacott
Goals: Nathan Webber 7,

defeated Cairns
Cyclones 10
Tries: Jason
Barsley, Bronson Ryan
Goals: Scott Williamson
Venue: Purtell Park
Date:
Sat July 15
Comments: Wests welcomed
back captain and 5/8th, Craig Bowen, with
a 50 point humiliation of the hapless
Cairns Cyclones. The Panthers probably
put in their best performance of the year
as they erased last week's disappointing
effort against Wynnum and went on a 11
try rampage. Cairns have now hit a new
low and have now conceded over 800
points in defence.
Burleigh Bears 42
Tries: Aaron
Douglas 3, Reggie Cressbrook 2, David
Parker, Nick Shaw, Shane O'Flanagan
Goals: Reggie Cressbrook 5
defeated
Central Queensland Comets 20
Tries: Justin
Loomans, Ian Dunemann, Josh Dillon, Todd Lynch
Goals: Graham
White 2
Venue: Browne Park
Date: Sat July 15
Comments: Burleigh have
come back to form with a comprehensive
win over the Comets in Rockhampton. The
Bears proved to be too strong for the
home side and still have a chance of
leapfrogging Toowoomba into third spot,
if they beat the Clydesdales this
weekend. Burleigh scored 8 tries with
Aaron Douglas back to his try scoring best
with 3. As for Central, this
disappointing loss means that it ends
their chances of making the finals and
will have to look to next year.
Souths Magpies 40
Tries: Marco Peters 2,
David Mulhall, Darren Lawson, Nathan
Squassoni, Jonathon Smith, Mohammed Allouche
Goals: Andrew Murdoch 6
defeated Wynnum
Seagulls 24
Tries: Jason Keough 2,
Alan Glyde, David Seage, Luke Robison
Goals: Luke
Robison 2
Venue: Davies Park
Date: Sun July 16
Comments: In a game
which had no bearing on the finals, the
Magpies have ended their poor form of
late with a solid win over the Seagulls
at home. Souths have been disappointing
over the past several weeks but ended up
being too good for Wynnum on the day.
Norths Devils 28
Tries: Paul Sheedy 3,
Kevin Carmichael, Glen Turner
Goals: Marty
Turner 4
defeated
Logan City Scorpions 16
Tries: David Tuqiri,
Charles Kennedy, Grant Dutton
Goals: Grant
Dutton 2
Venue: Bishop Park
Date: Sun July 16
Comments: Norths have
definitely sealed up the final spot in
the finals with a 12 point win over
Logan. Young fullback Paul Sheedy scored
3 tries as the Devils proved to be just
too powerful for the Scorpions on the
day. Logan will have to look to next year
and prepare another assault on the
competition for that elusive semi-final
spot.
Ipswich Jets 34
Tries: Francis Renouf 2,
Andrew Hamilton, Russell Bussian, Kerry
Carmichael, Marshall Chalk
Goals: Chris Lawler 5
defeated Easts
Tigers 30
Tries: Brett McPherson 2,
Matt Bickerstaff, Marcus Jensen, Des Clark
Goals: Scott
Thorburn 5
Venue: First Provincial Oval
Date: Sun July 16
Comments: Ipswich have
done it again but, unfortunately for
them, a little too late as Norths won on
the weekend and have wrapped up the final
spot in the five. The Jets have defeated
the Tigers twice this year and most
probably rue their inconsistency,
throughout the year, as the reason why
they just missed out on a finals berth.
Easts, however, have given Redcliffe the
minor premiership and will have to win
next weekend to hold onto second spot or
hope that Burleigh beat Toowoomba on
Saturday.
