Toowoomba
Clydesdales 52
Tries: Craig
Frawley 2, Alex Wilson 2, Damien Quinn,
Darren Mapp, Brad Meyers, Adam Warwick,
Corey Parker
Goals: Jace
Van Dijk 8
defeated Norths
Devils 4
Tries: Andrew Duncan
Venue: Athletic
Oval
Date: Fri March 24
Comments: The Clydesdales have
stamped their authority on the Bundy Gold
Cup by humbling Norths. What was
predicted as a battle between two
possible grand final opponents became
terribly one-sided in the Clydesdales'
favour as they went on a 9 try scoring
spree. The Devils will have to try to
erase this loss of their memory and get
back to basics.
Logan City Scorpions 36
Tries: Ryan
Russell, Terry O'Regan, Cameron Durnford,
Shannon Hilt, Brett Bowman, Phil
Shilvock, Paul Fisher
Goals: Grant Dutton 4
defeated Wynnum
Seagulls 4
Tries: Jay O'Doherty
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date:
Sat March 24
Comments: Logan snapped
their 3 game losing streak by
comprehensively defeating the Seagulls. The Scorpions' forwards outclassed their
opponents and thus laid the programme for
domination of the game. Although only
trailing by 4-10 at the break, Wynnum
looked totally out of their depth and
Logan made them pay for it. The Scorpions
finished the game off by scoring three
tries in the last 10 minutes.
Wests Panthers 43
Tries: Jason
Bulgarelli 3, Brent Webb 2, Craig Bowen,
Danny Smith
Goals: Nathan Webber 5,
Danny Smith 2
Field Goals: Shane Hamilton
defeated
Central Queensland Comets 20
Tries: Ken
Graham, Justin Loomans, Heath Egglestone,
Tristan Brady-Smith
Goals: Ken Graham 2
Venue: Purtell Park
Date: Sat March 24
Comments: The Panthers
have finally registered their first win
of the year by beating the Comets pretty
easily. Central would have to be disappointed with their effort at
Purtell Park and continue their poor away
form. It's something that the Comets need
to address if they are any chance of
making the semi-finals.
Easts Tigers 26
Tries: John Wilshere 2,
David Baildon, Brooke Martin, Daniel Frame
Goals: John Wilshere 3
defeated Cairns
Cyclones 10
Tries: Ty Walter, Tim Kopp
Goals: Scott Williamson
Venue: Barlow Park
Date: Sat March 24
Comments: Easts did
enough to topple the Cyclones and remain
with Toowoomba at the top of the table. The Tigers were never expected to lose
this game and they did so with a 16 point
victory. Unfortunately for Cairns, they
remain winless at the bottom of the
table.
Ipswich Jets 54
Tries: Brad Bullow 2,
Russell Bussian 2, Chris Lawler 2,
Francis Renouf, Brian McCarthy, Craig Green
Goals: Chris
Lawler 9
defeated
Souths Magpies 18
Tries: Paul Whatuira 2,
David Mulhall
Goals: David Mulhall 3
Venue: Brandon Park
Date: Sun March 25
Comments: Souths have
seem to gotten themselves into a hole by
heavily losing their third game in a row
to the Jets. Amazingly, Ipswich scored 28
points in the last 15 minutes of the
match and an incredible 48 for the second
half, after Souths led 18-6 at the break. The Jets captain, Chris Lawler, had a
great day with the boot, converting 9
goals from 10 attempts. He also scored two
tries to give him an individual tally of
26 points for the day.
Redcliffe Dolphins 18
Tries: John
Olzard, Trent Leis, Glen Air, Michael
Roberts
Goals: Michael Roberts
defeated Burleigh
Bears 16
Tries: Jamie Mahon, Irwin
Appo, Nick Shaw
Goals: Reggie
Cressbrook 2
Venue: Dolphin Oval
Date: Sun March 25
Comments: What a game!! A hot day saw a lot of mistakes occur in
the first half and Redcliffe capitalized on
Burleigh's errors and led 14-2 at the
half-time break. However, the Bears came
out more enthused and dominated the
second half. Burleigh scored three tries
and eventually took the lead with only
minutes to go. Just when the game was set
to go to the Bears, Redcliffe pulled
something out of the bag and halfback,
Michael Roberts, scored the winning try
to give the Dolphins a great victory. Definitely the best game of the weekend
and well worth the money spent.
