2000 Queensland Cup
Round 7: April 1, 2

Norths Devils 30
Tries: Paul Sheedy, Steve Bell, Gus McKellar, Wade Fenton, Matt Dux, Peter Robinson
Goals: Ryan Gundry 2, Gus McKellar
defeated Ipswich Jets 12
Tries: Francis Renouf, Danny Coburn
Goals: Chris Lawler 2
Venue: First Provincial Oval
Date: Sat April 1

Comments:
Uninspiring game with both teams making many errors.  Norths, coming off a thrashing, were still pretty ordinary but were lucky that their opponent was worse.  The Jets dominated possession in the first half but could not get over the try line due to silly errors and some tremendous defence from the Devils.  Norths exposed Ipswich's weakness out wide and took full advance of that but even their execution was below their standards. The Devils led 14-2 at half-time and were never headed after that.

Logan City Scorpions 40
Tries: Shaun Ireland 2, Brett Bowman 2, Phil Shilvock 2, Grant Dutton, Brendon Lindsay
Goals: Grant Dutton 3, Terry O'Regan
defeated Cairns Cyclones 0
Venue: Meakin Park
Date: Sat April 1
Comments: Logan City have registered their second thrashing in a row, this time dealing it to Cairns.  The Scorpions are probably still a long chance of making the finals but, with wins like this, it will do their chances no harm.  Less said about the Cyclones the better.

Burleigh Bears 36
Tries: Irwin Appo 2, Reggie Cressbrook, Jim Lenihan, Grant Adamson, Dean Allen, Tony Gray
Goals: Reggie Cressbrook 4
defeated Wests Panthers 16
Tries: Robbie David 2, John Bruce, Scott Whiting
Venue: Pizzey Park
Date: Sat April 1
Comments: The Bears proved too strong for the inexperienced Wests side with the forwards proving a big hurdle for the Panthers.  Burleigh went into sheds with a 18-8 half-time lead but Wests immediately scored in the second half to get within 6 points of the lead.  However, the Bears dominated the rest of the game from that point onwards.

Souths Magpies 26
Tries: David Mulhall, Brodie Caldwell, Paul Whatuira, Andrew Murdoch, Wayne Wilkinson
Goals: David Mulhall 3
defeated Central Queensland Comets 22
Tries: Heath Eggleston, Kere Parata, Matt Barclay, Tristan Brady-Smith
Goals: Ken Graham 2, Danny Price
Venue: Browne Park
Date:
Sat April 1
Comments: Great turn around from Souths in this match by defeating the home side by 4 points.  The Magpies erased last week's ordinary effort by scoring 20 points in the second half.  The Comets have lost their last two games, in which they should have probably won, while Souths have now broken a four match losing streak.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 44
Tries: Kirk Reynoldson 3, Adam Warwick, Justin Hodges, Darren Mapp, Carl Webb, Jan Petrie
Goals: Adam Warwick 5, Damien Quinn
defeated Wynnum Seagulls 4
Tries: Alan Glyde
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date:
Sun April 2
Comments: The result of this match was never in doubt.  Wynnum were always going to face an uphill battle against the pace setters of the Bundy Gold Cup and Toowoomba dealt them a hammering.  With Easts losing to Redcliffe, the Clydesdales are now the solitary team on 12 points at the top of the table and are certainly on the way to greater things.

Redcliffe Dolphins 24
Tries: Ata Isarabhakdi, John Olzard, Craig O'Dwyer, Barry Denduck
Goals: Damien Richters 3, Michael Roberts
defeated Easts Tigers 12
Tries: Gavin Allen 2
Goals: John Wilshere 2
Venue: Langlands Park
Date: Sun April 2
Comments: A see-sawing battle which either side looking capable of winning.  Redcliffe turned out their best performance of the year at Langlands with interchange player , Barry Denduck, scoring the match winning try. The Dolphins led 10-4 at half-time but the Tigers' never gave in.  Once Dunduck scored his try, Redcliffe led 24-12 with a few minutes to go and it was game over for Easts.  The Dolphins are now getting things together after a inconsistent start.
