2000 Queensland Cup
Round 9: April 15, 16

Easts Tigers 34
Tries: Aseri Laing 2, Jamie Tomlinson, Brett McPherson, David Baildon, Jeff Doyle
Goals: John Wilshere 5
defeated Souths Magpies 16
Tries: Francis Meli, Darren Lawson, Vae Kalolo
Goals: Ben Lythe 2
Venue: Langlands Park
Date: Sat April 15

Comments:
The first half of this game saw some fantastic football being played by both sides.  Easts scooted out to a 10-0 lead but the Magpies came back to draw the game 10 all at the break.  Both teams played terrific and frantic football with little error and it was a joy to watch.  However, the big Souths' forwards got tied in the second half and the Tigers' put on 24 points to run away with the game.  Aseri Laing and Daniel Frame proved a big handful for Souths with Laing scoring 2 tries.

Burleigh Bears 22
Tries: Irwin Appo, Reggie Cressbrook, Darren Anderson, Dean Allen
Goals: Reggie Cressbrook 3
defeated Norths Devils 20
Tries: Steven Bell, Gus McKellar, Chris Essex, Dane Morgan
Goals:
Gus McKellar, Ryan Gundry
Venue: Pizzey Park
Date: Sat April 15
Comments: An exciting game between two of competition's heavyweights with a penalty goal to Reggie Cressbrook sealing the game for the Bears.  Burleigh had the best of their opponents on the first half, with the Bears getting out to 20-4 lead at one stage.  However, a tremendous fight back by the Devils saw them tie the game up at 20 all.  With under two minutes to go on the clock, referee Rob Alexander penalised Norths for a play-the-ball infringement and Cressbrook booted the goal to give Burleigh the win.

Ipswich Jets 30
Tries: Brian McCarthy 2, Craig Green, Francis Renouf, Kerry Carmichael
Goals: Kerry Carmichael 5
defeated Central Comets 22
Tries: Matt Barclay 2, Justin Loomans, Ash Dowie
Goals: Ken Graham 3
Venue: Browne Park
Date: Sat April 15
Comments: Ipswich scored a surprising win against the Comets in Rockhampton.  Given the Jets' previous two weeks form, you wouldn't have tipped them to topple the home side.  However, they managed to pull it off!  Rod Reddy and coaching staff at the Comets must be starting to get worried at their sides' performances, recently. On a four game losing streak, the Comets are a better team than their results are suggesting at the moment.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 34
Tries: Corey Parker 2, Dennis White, Chris Walker, Brent Tate, Carl Webb
Goals: Jac Van Dijk 5
defeated Cairns Cyclones 12
Tries: Leon Yeatman, Shannon Furber
Goals: Scott Williamson 2
Venue: Callender Park
Date:
Sat April 15
Comments: The Clydesdales remain at the top of the Bundy Gold Cup after Saturday night's win in Innisfail.  The bottom placed Cairns Cyclones were never expected to trouble the high-flying Toowoomba and surely enough the away side secured a fairly comfortable win.

Logan City Scorpions 22
Tries: Terry O'Regan, Darren Crilley, Brett Simmonds, Shaun Ireland
Goals: Grant Dutton 3
defeated Wests Panthers 6
Tries: Mark Eacott
Goals: Nathan Bourke
Venue: Meakin Park
Date:
Sun April 16
Comments: Good win by the Scorpions saw them secure their first ever Queensland Cup victory over Wests. Logan stay in touch with the top five, just staying outside on for and against.

Redcliffe Dolphins 14
Tries: Adam Mogg, George Saleh, James Hinchey
Goals: Damien Richters
defeated Wynnum Seagulls 6
Tries: Jay O'Doherty
Goals: Jay O'Doherty
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date: Sun April 16
Comments: Wynnum should hold their heads high after putting on a spirited performance against their higher ranked rivals, Redcliffe.  The Seagulls have not won a game but certainly were close to gaining one at Kougari, on Sunday.  The Dolphins only led by two points at the half-time break and were extremely lucky to escape with the two points after putting on such mistake ridden and ordinary effort.  The Wynnum crowd in the 'Chook Pen' cheered their team off the field even though they lost the game and deserved too.  Win number one for the Seagulls surely must not be far away.
