The Burleigh Bears have managed to just hang on and record a 18-16 win over East Coast at Pizzey Park on Saturday. East Coast came out in the first half with all guns blazing and managed to jump out to a 10-0 lead after 17 minutes. However, as it has been all year, the Tigers blew many more opportunities and should have been leading by a greater margin at half-time than the 10-6 lead they took in.

Hudson Smith and Wade Liddell earned stints in the sin-bin for their part in a brawl that happened just before the break. Smith reacted to tackle and started throwing punches at the Tigers' bench player. Liddell retaliated and both got their orders by referee Lindsay Luck once everything was under control.

The Bears came out in the second half and immediately grabbed the lead when Tiger Martin Allan fumbled a Dean Allen grubber kick in the in goal and Ryan Gundry pounced on the loose ball, on the first set of six from the kick-off. They extended their lead to 18-10 in the 54th minute when Grant Adamson fooled the defence and crossed over for a soft try.

However, Burleigh couldn't quite put East Coast away and the Tigers managed to come back into the match when John Wilshere scored a try, with 10 minutes to go on the clock. Unfortunately for the visitors, they couldn't get the winning try and the Bears ran out narrow 18-16 winners.

Neither side played particularly well with both side grassing many opportunities especially East Coast. The Tigers again showed they are having many difficulties scoring points and just look to be suffering without the services of 5/8th Scott Thorburn. The Bears now jump ahead of East Coast in fourth place on the ladder
