Four quick tries in 20 minutes in the second half has ensured the Toowoomba Clydesdales a win over Logan at Meakin Park on Saturday. The Scorpions led 14-10 at half-time but a poor defensive display in that period, after the break, allowed their opponents to assert their class. However, to the home side's credit, they did not give up trying and grabbed two late tries to eventually go down by 8 points.

Toowoomba scored an early try when Corey Parker simply stepped through some ordinary defence and crossed underneath the posts. Logan quickly regained their composure and half-back Darren Ireland scored a pretty soft try in the 16th minute when he sucked in Brent Tate with a big dummy and popped over the line. Brad Sim had performed a great one-on-one strip on Clydesdales' fullback Steve Irwin, earlier on in the movement, and the Scorpions were able to capitalize on this opportunity.

A brilliant effort by Brendan Lindsay saw the home side grab the lead in the 21st minute. Lindsay put in a small chip kick and somehow regathered the ball to score a great individual try. Brad Sim converted the try and Logan were in front 10-6.

Nathan Murphy struck back for the Clydesdales when he simply accelerated through two defenders to score the first of two tries for the match. It was poor defence by the Scorpions but they made up for this blemish when Phil Shilvock burrowed his way from dummy
half to score a try, just before half-time. Shilvock had made a great break down the sideline and Nick Myers was brought down at the line before Shilvock darted from dummy half and got under two defenders to put his side back in front again. The Scorpions took in a well deserved 14-10 lead at the break.

Unfortunately for the Scorpions, their defence totally fell away in the early stages of the second half and Toowoomba took full advantage of this. Tries to Damien Quinn (43rd), Corey Parker (48th), Tony Duggan (51st) and Nathan Murphy (57th) virtually put the game beyond doubt for Toowoomba. Halves Nathan Murphy and Casey McGuire were the chief destroyers and they both cut up the flimsy Logan defence. Murphy made two great line breaks with saw tries eventually scored while McGuire delicately flicked the ball around the back of two defenders so Parker could score his second half for the day.

But the home side never gave up trying and managed to grab two late tries to add a bit of respectability to the score. Terry O'Regan (off another Lindsay chip and chase effort) and Brendan Currie both crossed over for tries. The Scorpions also had another opportunity to score another try but Toowoomba's defence held fast in the dying minutes and they were able to come away with a 34-26 win.
