The Burleigh Bears keep their premiership aspirations
alive with a 30-23 win over East Coast at Pizzey Park
on Saturday night. The Bears will now face
Toowoomba next Saturday at Athletic Oval to determine
who will meet Redcliffe in the Bundy Gold Cup Grand
Final.
Only one point separated the two sides after the first
half Scott Thorburn kicking a field goal to give the
Tigers a 17-16 advantage at half-time. However,
the home side proved to be the stronger side in the
second and eventually ran out 7 point victors.
East Coast would have been very disappointed with the
way they have gone this year. After looking to
be one of the real contenders for this year's
premiership, the Tigers have struggled for consistency
all year and that has cost them dearly. It all
was always going to be a tough ask to win from 5th
spot and a task that proved to be too much in the end
for East Coast.
