The Redcliffe Dolphins have kicked off the defence of
their Bundy Gold Cup premiership with an very
impressive 40-10 win over Norths at Bishop Park on
Saturday.
The Dolphins got off to good start by jumping out to
18-0 lead after 20 minutes. However, a change in the
weather conditions saw Redcliffe drop off a gear and
Norths hit back to only trail 18-10 at half-time.
George Wilson put Redcliffe further in front when he
exploited a deficiency out wide in the Devils'
defence. Norths never looked hitting back at all after
this try and when Troy Mitchell scored, the game was
virtually all over.
Redcliffe drove the nail in the coffin further by
scoring another 3 tries in the last 12 minutes of the
match to record a 30 point win over the error-ridden
Devils.
Jason Webber was the star for the Dolphins with 3
tries in his debut for the side. He simply superb and
he is looking like to be a very good buy for
Redcliffe. Adam Mogg, Craig O'Dwyer and Tony Gould
were also impressive for the Phins.
As for the Devils, it was a day to forget. Their
handling was simply atrocious and they made too many
errors in their own half and were punished
accordingly. The fact that they only completed 15 of
36 sets of six kinda summed the day for the home side.
In the lower grades, Norths held out a fast finishing
Redcliffe outfit to record a 12-10 win in A Grade,
while in Colts, the Dolphins came home strongly to
record a 22-all draw.
