Norths move within 1 point of third spot after tearing Wynnum to shreds at Bishop Park on Sunday. The Devils racked up a total 12 tries for a final score line of 60-12 and put forward arguably their best performance of the year. Their cause was pretty much aided by some non-existent defence by the Seagulls and the Devils backs had a field day at their opponent’s expense.

The home side stamped their authority on the match right from the kick-off and scored three quick tries after 13 minutes of play. Wynnum struck back shortly but they immediately made a mistake of their own half, which soon led to another Devils try.

Again, the Seagulls replied with Daniel Frame crashing over but their joy was short-lived when Norths’ talented 5/8th Marty Turner stepping his way through the fragile defence. Turner converted his try to kick his first goal of the day, having missed the previous 4 attempts. Another talented player Paul Sheedy crossed for his second try to give the Devils a very comfortable 28-8 lead at half-time.

Trevor Exton gave the Seagulls a small glimpse of hope when he crossed early in the second half but it was all downhill from there for the bayside club. Norths ran in 6 more tries with to come away with a very convincing win over the their hapless opposition. Brooke Martin scored a hat trick of tries while Paul Sheedy and Cooper Cronk also grabbed a couple each.

The Devils will now face Redcliffe at Dolphin Oval next week for the battle to see who plays Burleigh in the major semi-final. With the Dolphins currently out of form, this is a good opportunity for Norths to deal a massive blow to the defending premiers’ chances of back-to-back titles and grab a vital spot in the top 3.
