Redcliffe has scored a relatively comfortable win over Ipswich in a high scoring match at Dolphin Oval. The Dolphins won the match 50-28 but their task was made easy with a poor defensive display from the visitors.

The Dolphins jumped quickly out of the blocks with tries to Michael Roberts and George Wilson in the first 6 minutes of the match. Roberts skirted out from dummy-half, caught the defence napping and popped over in the corner. Andrew Wynyard set up the Wilson try when he off loaded a magnificent pass to George. Wilson sprinted down the side line and stepped away from two defenders to go under the posts.

Ipswich struck back also immediately (courtesy of a Tony Gould knock on from the kick-off of the Wilson try) when Reggie Cressbrook completely fooled Redcliffe's defence with a dummy and ran through a gaping hole to score the try.

However, Redcliffe were simply on fire in attack and they jumped out to a 24-6 lead after 20 minutes of play with tries to Jason Webber and George Wilson. Webber snatched his first try of the afternoon when he stepped and weaved his way through some very ordinary defence. Andrew Wynyard had another hand in the Wilson try when he gave another great pass to Damien Richters. Richters off loaded the ball to George who stood up Reggie Cressbrook and crossed over for his second try.

While the home side's attacking abilities were excellent, they lacked intensity in defence (much like Ipswich) and the Jets managed to peg back the Dolphins' lead back to 6 points. Ricky Bird had a hand in both tries by putting Campbell McNiven into gap, which saw the interchange player cross over, and also scored a great individual try himself. Bird made a good run and put up a nice little chip kick. Jason Webber fumbled the ball and Ricky pounced on the loose ball to score.

However, they were dealt a blow when Damien Richters crossed over for another Redcliffe try, just before half-time. Rod West flicked back a pass to Andrew Wynyard who gave another great ball to Richters and he crossed over in the corner. Damien added a great side line conversion and the Dolphins went into the break with a 30-18 lead.

Redcliffe virtually put game beyond doubt when they scored two great tries, early in the second half. Mogg decided to run the ball on the fifth tackle and sliced through the fragile defence. He passed the ball to Michael Roberts, who quickly flicked the ball back to Wynyard. The second rower off loaded the ball and Jason Webber crashed over of the line for try number 2. The second try came when Richters quickly fired a pass to George Wilson. Wilson sprinted down the side line and went in field before giving the ball to Mogg. Mogg turned around and Rod West finished off the movement with a great try.

Ipswich hit back with a try to Kerry Carmichael but the Dolphins managed to hit the 50 mark in the 68th minute when Jason Webber crossed for a hat trick of tries.

Tups Timaloa scored a consolation try for the Jets but that was all academic with the home side eventually running out 50-28 victors at full time.

Redcliffe stay within two points of Toowoomba on the ladder while the Jets will have some work to do in the second half of the season, if they are to make the semi-finals. With Burleigh posting an easy 48-4 over Wests last night at Pizzey Park, it makes Ipswich's task a little bit harder.

The Dolphins managed to win all three grades on the day with wins also in A Grade and Colts over Ipswich. Colts, despite a lopsided penalty count against them, managed to post an easy 36-6 victory over their opposition. Winger Ricky Hewinson made a good comeback from retirement with 2 tries (along with centre Peter Marshall) to lead A Grade to resounding 40-18 over the Jets.
