Round 1: March 10, 11

Redcliffe Dolphins 40
Tries: Jason Webber 3, George Wilson 2, Barry Denduck, Troy Mitchell, Andrew Wynyard, Damien Richters
Goals: Damien Richters 2
defeated Norths Devils 10
Tries: Tai Lavea, David Tuquiri
Goals: Marty Turner
Venue: Bishop Park
Date: Sat 10 March

Comments:
Redcliffe have kicked off the defence of their premiership with an emphatic win over Norths.  The Dolphins kicked out to a 18-0 lead after 20 minutes before the Devils staged a mini-revival and only trail 18-10 at half-time.  However, Redcliffe went on with it after the break and recorded an easy victory over the home team, whose handling was simply atrocious all day.  New recruit and centre Jason Webber proved to be the star of the day with three tries and set up another for Damien Richters.

East Coast Tigers 34
Tries: Dustin Cooper, Aseri Laing, Robert Thompson, Jason Bulgarelli, Jeff Doyle, Graham Cotter
Goals: Scott Thorburn 5
defeated Wests Panthers 10
Tries: Adam Carne, Aaron Morgan
Goals: Brent Webb
Venue: Purtell Park
Date: Sat March 10
Comments: The Tigers proved to be much too strong for the home side, running away with the game in the second half.  Easts only led 10-6 at half-time but their class eventually showed out and they ran in 4 tries after the break.

Logan City Scorpions 28
Tries: Terry O'Regan, Brendan Lindsay, Nick Meyers, Darren Ireland
Goals: Brad Simm 6
defeated Central Queensland Comets 16
Tries: Wade Rothery, Heath Egglestone, Justin Loomans
Goals: Scott Minto 2
Venue: Browne Park
Date: Sat March 10
Comments: A some what of a upset in this match with the Scorpions getting up in Rockhampton.  Logan were expected to struggle against the Comets, away from home, but produced a good performance to come away with the 2 points.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 38
Tries: Micheal Ryan 3, Brent Tate, Corey Parker, Mark Corvo, Kirk Reynoldson
Goals: Stuart Kelly 3, Justin Hodges 2
defeated Ipswich Jets 22
Tries: Richard Allwood 2, Isaac Kaufmann, Jeffrey Ballinger
Goals: Ricky Bird 2, Ray Mercy
Venue: Bendigo Bank Stadium
Date:
Sun March 11
Comments: The star-studded Clydesdales were pushed by the Jets all the way but they ended up scoring 7 tries to run out winners.  The Jets came out hard and the home side jumped out to a 10-0 lead after 14 minutes.  However, Toowoomba eventually ground down Ipswich and recorded a 16 point victory.  Clydesdales' hooker Michael Ryan continues to press for NRL selection with a hat-trick of tries. Ipswich will be a stronger side once Reggie Cressbrook, Faron Anderson and Ben Lucas all return from injury.

Wynnum Seagulls 36

Goals: Grant Dutton 2, Nathan Webber 2
defeated Souths Magpies 14
Tries: Ben Davidson 2, John Bruce
Goals: Andrew Murdoch
Venue: Davies Park
Date:
Sun March 11
David Rohle's Comments:
Wynnum defeated a spirited Souths Magpies side and showed why they believe they will make the top 5 this season.  Souths played good football for the majority of the game and tested Wynnum's defence on many occasions.  Wynnum however held strong in defence while taking their opportunities in attack.  A very even 1st half of footy ended with a lopsided score line of 16 - nil to Wynnum after Souths commitment in defence was lacking.  Any chance of a Souths win was snuffed out when after another promising attacking raid by Souths, Wynnum scooted away to score and lead 20 nil.  Souths, however, were not done with and fought back to 30 - 14, and with attacking raid after attacking raid falling short, they ran out of steam and conceded another try on the hooter.  Positives for the Maggies were a good 2nd half with some determined attack, albeit lacking in the final throes.  Wynnum's defence was rock solid for much of the match. A lesser performance by Wynnum on their line may have seen the score line favour Souths.
