2001 Queensland Cup
Round 19: July 28, 29

East Coast Tigers 28
Tries: John Wilshere, Marcus Jensen, Scott Sipple, Ricky Taylor, Scott Thorburn
Goals: John Wilshere 4
defeated Norths Devils 18
Tries: Paul Whaturia 2, Terry Benson, Semi Tadulala
Goals: Paul Sheedy
Venue: Bishop Park
Date:
Sat July 28
Comments: East Coast has gained a bit of an psychological edge with a win over Norths at Bishop Park. These two sides are almost certain to play in the elimination semi-final and a win in this game would go a long way in gaining home ground advantage for this match. The Tigers' win now gives them a good chance of snatching 4th spot off the Devils, whom they now only trail by 1 point. They have an much easier draw than Norths and would be favourites to finish in that spot at the end of the preliminary rounds.

Central Queensland Comets 38

Tries: Wade Rothery, Scott Minto, Heath Egglestone, Andrew Schick, Andrew Moroney, Walson Carlos, Jason Barsley
Goals: Walson Carlos 3, Graham White 2
defeated Wests Panthers 14
Tries: Brent Webb 2, Denny Lambert
Goals: Denny Lambert
Venue: Browne Park
Date: Sat July 28

Comments:
Central has gained a bit of revenge on the Panthers with a commanding win at home.  Wests defeated the Comets in Round 9 but were unable to repeat that performance in this match.  Panthers' fullback Brent Webb extended his lead on the top try scorers table to 5 with another 2 tries against Central.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 48
Tries: Michael Coorey 3, Steve Irwin 2, Tony Duggan, Nathan Murphy, Michael Ryan, Christian Robertson
Goals: Damien Quinn 6
defeated Wynnum Seagulls 14
Tries: Eddie Aila 2, Daniel Frame
Goals: Jay O'Doherty
Venue: Newtown Oval
Date: Sun July 29
Comments: Toowoomba have officially wrapped up the minor premiership with a crushing victory over a disappointing Wynnum on Newtown Oval.  The Clydesdales are 5 points in front of Redcliffe, who had the bye this weekend, and can not be overtaken in the final rounds of the competition. Michael Coorey led the onslaught for Toowoomba with 3 tries with replacement back Steve Irwin also nabbing 2.  The loss ends whatever chance of the Seagulls had of making the semi-finals and they will have to look to next year.

Ipswich Jets 34
Tries: Trent Flood 2, Aaron Bulow, Andrew Hamilton, Campbell McNiven, Danny McAllister
Goals: Trent Flood 4, Reggie Cressbrook
defeated Logan Scorpions 22
Tries: Brad Sim, Darren Ireland, Brett Simmonds, Shaun McLean
Goals: Brad Sim 3
Venue: Bendigo Bank Oval
Date:
Sun July 29

Burleigh Bears 30
Tries: Greg Bourke, Nick Shaw, Dan Kennedy, Grant Adamson, Shane O'Flanagan
Goals: Greg Bourke 5
defeated Souths Magpies 18
Tries: Tristan Brady-Smith 2, Darren Lawson, Mohammed Allouche
Goals:
Matt Lockyer
Venue: Davies Park
Date: Sun July 29
Comments: Burleigh kept the pressure on Redcliffe with a solid win over Souths.  The Bears virtually 'shut up shop' once they had raced to a 30-0 lead after 50 minutes and let the Magpies in for a few consolation tries. Unfortunately for the home side, errors in their own half cost them dearly and Burleigh pounced on any opportunity with open arms.  By the time Mohammed Allouche crashed over for Souths' first try, the game was pretty much all over for the Magpies.
