2001 Queensland Cup
Round 2: March 16-18

Toowoomba Clydesdales 28
Tries: Darren Burns 2, Corey Parker, Damien Quinn, Elia Tuqiri
Goals: Damien Quinn 4
defeated Norths Devils 20
Tries: Michael Russo, Nick Henderson, David Tuqiri, Steven Bell
Goals: Brook Martin, Marty Turner
Venue: ANZ Stadium
Date: Fri March 16

Comments:
The Clydesdales held off a large charge from Norths in the second half to record a win at ANZ Stadium.  Toowoomba dominated the first half to lead 24-6 at half-time.  Forwards Corey Parker (watch this player because he will break into the Broncos side at some stage this year) and Darren Burns apparently cut a sway through the fragile Devils defence with Parker scoring a try and Burns grabbing two.  Elia Tuqiri, cousin of Lote, charged down a kick just minutes after the break and Norths could have been heading for their second thrashing in two weeks.  However, the Devils dug deep and added a bit of respectability to the score by crossing for 3 late tries.

East Coast Tigers 12
Tries: Brett McPherson
Goals: Scott Thorburn 4
defeated Burleigh Bears 10
Tries: Aaron Douglas, Nick Shaw
Goals: Greg Bourke
Venue: Langlands Park
Date: Sat March 17

Wynnum Seagulls 22
Tries: David Seage 4, Jason Keough
Goals: Nathan Webber
drew with Central Queensland Comets 22
Tries: Justin Loomans 2, Wade Rothery, Heath Egglestone, Andrew Schick
Goals: Walson Carlos
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date: Sat March 17
Comments: Wynnum and Central played out a draw at Kougari Oval.  The Seagulls' David Seage scored 4 tries for his side but it wasn't enough to ensure victory.  The Comets, who have had injury problems of recent, would be a bit happy at getting at least a draw but could have won the game had they converted more of their tries.  The Seagulls also had a disappointing day with the boot.

Logan City Scorpions 40
Tries: Phil Shilvock 2, Brad Sim, Brett Simmonds, Brendan Currie, Damien Durnford, Steve Shilvock
Goals: Brad Sim 6
defeated Wests Panthers 4
Tries: Mark Eacott
Venue: Meakin Park
Date:
Sat March 17
Comments: The Scorpions have continued their great start to the season with a thumping win over Wests at home.  Logan's next big challenge will be against the Burleigh Bears on the Gold Coast and it will be interesting to see how they fare against the Bears next week.  If they keep putting in performances like that, the Panthers are set for a very long season.

Redcliffe Dolphins 42
Tries: Damien Richters 3, Craig O'Dwyer 2, Adam Mogg, Kevin Cook, Barry Denduck, George Wilson
Goals: Damien Richters 3
defeated Souths Magpies 12
Tries: Josh Stowers, Nathan Squassoni
Goals: Nathan Roe, Andrew Murdoch
Venue: Dolphin Oval
Date:
Sun March 18
Comments: A pretty convincing win by the Dolphins over the struggling Magpies.  Redcliffe led from start to finish and were in full control of the match.  The Dolphins led 18-0 at half-time and jumped out to a 38-0 lead before Souths scored two late tries.  Damien Richters scored 3 tries but it was Adam Mogg who the star of the match.  Mogg looked dangerous in attack all day (which included a superb try just after the break) and always wanted to get involved in the match.  The Magpies tried all day but they were not in the same class as the home side.
