2001 Queensland Cup
Round 20: August 4, 5

Toowoomba Clydesdales 28
Tries: Justin Hodges 2, Brent Tate, Tony Duggan, Nathan Murphy
Goals: Damien Quinn 4
defeated Redcliffe Dolphins 22
Tries: Luke Scott 2, Troy Mitchell, Stuart Cruickshank
Goals: Damien Richters 3
Venue: Dolphin Oval
Date: Sat August 4
Comments: The Clydesdales managed to hold off a fast-finishing Redcliffe outfit to record a nail biting 28-22 win at Dolphin Oval. The Dolphins staged a great comeback, being 28-10 down at one stage, and had a try disallowed by the video referee right on the stroke of fulltime, which would have got them a draw. Halfback Michael Roberts knocked on in the in goal as he was trying to force the ball down after he put in a grubber kick. Had he not had a go at the ball, it would have been a try as Jason Webber also came through and forced the ball down shortly after.

Burleigh Bears 24

Tries: Steve Parsons 2, Grant Adamson, Simon Geros
Goals: Greg Bourke 4
defeated Central Queensland Comets 22
Tries: Justin Loomans, Heath Egglestone, Graham White, Walson Carlos
Goals: Walson Carlos 3
Venue: Pizzey Park
Date: Sat August 4

Comments:
Burleigh move up another place on the ladder following a narrow (but crucial) 24-22 win over Central at home.  The Bears secured their 12th win in a row and look certain to have home ground advantage in the major preliminary semi-final, after Redcliffe fell to Toowoomba on Saturday.  With only the lowly Wests and the bye to come for the Gold Coast side, they should most definitely wrap up second spot.

Wynnum Seagulls 23
Tries: Robbie David 2, Clayton Maher, Scott Tsaousis
Goals: Jay O'Doherty 2, Ron Troutman
Field Goals: Grant Dutton
defeated Ipswich Jets 22
Tries: Marshall Chalk 2, Michael Jack, Faron Anderson
Goals:
Trent Flood 3
Venue: Kougari Oval
Date: Sun August 5
Comments: A field goal to Grant Dutton has given Wynnum a 23-22 win over Ipswich at Kougari Oval.  The Jets were in front before the Seagulls managed scored a late try, with 3 minutes to go, to make it 22-all. The Dutton field goal right on the stroke of fulltime sealed the win for the home side.

Norths Devils 42
Tries: Paul Sheedy 3, David Tuqiri 2, Donavan Slade, Marty Turner, Jason Wrigley
Goals: Marty Turner 5
defeated Logan Scorpions 22
Tries: Chris Beattie 2, Terry O'Regan, Cameron Durnford, Brendan Currie
Goals: Brad Sim
Venue: Meakin Park
Date:
Sun August 5
Comments: The Devils hold onto fourth spot after a comfortable win over Logan.  This looked to have been a bit of a danger game for Norths but they brushed aside the home side quite easily, with fullback Paul Sheedy grabbing a hat trick of tries.  This season has been a big disappointment for Logan and they will be looking forward to the completing the year with, hopefully, a couple of wins.

East Coast Tigers 58
Tries: John Wilshere 2, Marcus Jensen 2, Jason Bulgarelli, Scott Thorburn, Chris Nahi, Aseri Laing, Clinton Peters, Brett McPherson
Goals: John Wilshere 9
defeated Souths Magpies 8
Tries: Brett Stevens, Matt McCosker
Venue: Langlands Park
Date:
Sun August 5
Comments: The Tigers are hitting form at the right time of the season with a crushing 50 point win over the hapless Souths.  East Coast probably put in their best performance and are raising a few eye bows as they chase for that premiership.  It's still debatable whether or not they can win a premiership from 4th or 5th spot but, if there is any team that is capable of doing this task, then it is the Tigers.
