2001 Queensland Cup
Round 5: April 7, 8

Redcliffe Dolphins 23
Tries: Craig O'Dwyer, Phil Graham, George Wilson, Damien Richters
Goals: Damien Richters 3
Field Goals: Tony Gould
defeated Burleigh Bears 22.
Tries: Chris Horsfall, Nick Shaw, Jim Lenihan, Hudson Smith
Goals: Greg Bourke 3
Venue: Pizzey Park
Date: Sat April 7
Comments: A last second field goal by Tony Gould sealed got the Dolphins out of jail, after they blew a 22-0 lead at half-time.  The Bears fought back admirably from the large deficit to draw level with their opposition but an attempt at a 40-20 by Adam Hayden sadly went astray and out on the full.  Given this great opportunity, the Dolphins took it with open arms and Gould slotted through the winning points with the field goal.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 70
Tries: Tony Duggan 3, Brent Tate 3, Ken McGuinness 2, Damien Quinn 2, Justin Hodges, Casey McGuire, Neale Wyatt
Goals: Damien Quinn 9
defeated Wests Panthers 6
Tries: Adam Carne
Goals: Brent Webb
Venue: Purtell Park
Date: Sat April 7

Comments:
A record first grade loss for the Panthers as the Clydesdales went on a 13-try rampage at Purtell Park.

Ipswich Jets 23
Tries: Francis Renouf, Matthew Ralph, Ricky Bird, Richard Allwood, Danny McAllister
Goals: Matthew Ralph
Field Goals: Ricky Bird
defeated Central Queensland Comets 22
Tries: Justin Loomans 2, David Smith, Heath Egglestone
Goals: Graham White 3
Venue: Browne Park
Date: Sat April 7
Comments: Ipswich have registered their first win of the season over the Comets but it was by the narrowest of margins.  The Jets got home courtesy of a Ricky Bird field goal which stretched their lead to 23-16 and Central were not able come back from there.  The Comets can't seem to take a trick at all and now sit second last on the ladder.

Norths Devils 40
Tries: Semi Tadulala 4, Brad Watts 2, Tai Lavea, Michael Russo
Goals: Marty Turner 4
defeated Souths Magpies 18
Tries: Ben Davidson, Ross Chatfield, Tristan Brady-Smith
Goals: Andrew Murdoch 2, Matt Lockyer
Venue: Davies Park
Date:
Sun April 8
Comments: Norths have proven to be much too strong for Souths and they recorded a fairly comfortable victory at Davies Park.  Semi Tadulala scored 4 tries and Brad Watt also got amongst the try scorers with two himself for the visitors.  The Devils now slip into the top 5 for the first time this season and look to be starting to move into gear after a slow start.

East Coast Tigers 28
Tries: Aseri Laing 2, Jamie Tomlinson, John Wilshere, Robert Thompson
Goals: Scott Thorburn 4
defeated Wynnum Seagulls 22
Tries: David Seage, Jason Keough, Duncan Naawi, Scott Tsaousis
Goals: Nathan Webber 3
Venue: Langlands Park
Date:
Sun April 8
Comments: The Tigers remain undefeated for the season after a win over Wynnum but they didn't have things all their way in the match.  East Coast held out a determined Seagulls' outfit with Aseri Laing getting two tries for the visitors.  In their past two clashes with the Tigers, Wynnum have gotten close to knocking off their opposition but it hasn't been enough.  This looked to be the case again in this match.
