2001 Queensland Cup
Round 8: May 4-6

Ipswich Jets 18
Tries: Reggie Cressbrook, Faron Anderson, Ricky Bird, Kerry Theuerkauf
Goals: Ricky Bird
defeated East Coast Tigers 6
Tries: Ricky Taylor
Goals: John Wilshere
Venue: Bendigo Bank Oval
Date: Fri May 4

Comments:
Ipswich have bounced back from a humiliating loss to Burleigh with a great win over East Coast at home.  The Jets really needed to win this match if they are to keep up their hopes of making the semi-finals.  East Coast have now lost 3 matches in a row and are looking quite shaky at the moment.  They Norths at home next week and that will be no easy task with the Devils scoring a comfortable win over Burleigh on the weekend.

Redcliffe Dolphins 34
Tries: Jason Webber 2, Adam Mogg, George Wilson, Andrew Wynyard, Craig O'Dwyer
Goals: Damien Richters 5
defeated Wynnum Seagulls 14
Tries: Nathan Webber, Jason Keough
Goals:
Nathan Webber 2, Grant Dutton
Venue: Dolphin Oval
Date: Sat May 5
Comments: Redcliffe have recorded a solid 34-14 win over Wynnum at Dolphin Oval, yesterday. The Dolphins' cause was pretty much helped by the Seagulls constantly turning over the ball in their own half.  The Seagulls were lucky to only trail 12-14 at half-time and, when Grant Dutton kicked a penalty goal after Dolphin Danny Bourke was sent to the sin-bin to tie up the match, Wynnum looked to have the upper hand in the match.  However, they blew any advantage they had when Craig O'Dwyer charged over for a soft try for Redcliffe, after the Seagulls coughed up the ball in their own half.  The Dolphins ran in two more tries and remain undefeated for the season.

Toowoomba Clydesdales 56
Tries: Elia Tuqiri 2, Damon Keating 2, Justin Hodges, Ken McQuinness, Tony Duggan, Neale Wyatt, Corey Parker, Mark Corvo
Goals: Damien Quinn 8
defeated Logan City Scorpions 0
Venue: Newtown Oval
Date:
Sat May 5
Comments: The Clydesdales continue their hot form with another 56-0 win over the Scorpions.  Toowoomba scored another 10 tries in this match with Elia Tuqiri and Damon Keating both grabbing two tries apiece.  They now have a massive for-and-against record over 300 points, just after 8 rounds, and simply look unbeatable at the present moment.  Logan, after a good start, have now lost four games in a trot.

Norths Devils 40
Tries: Marty Turner 3, Paul Sheedy, Terry Benson, Tai Lavea, Paul Whatuira
Goals: Marty Turner 6
defeated Burleigh Bears 18
Tries: Nick Shaw, Aaron Douglas, Paul Anoleck, Chris Horsfal
Goals: Greg Bourke
Venue: Bishop Park
Date:
Sat May 5
Comments: Norths continue their good form of late with a thumping win over the Bears.  Young half-back Marty Turner scored three tries (and kicked 6 goals) for the Devils as the home side overwhelmed a disappointing Burleigh outfit.  The Bears have been hot and cold all year but, surprisingly, they are only two points adrift of the top 5.

Souths Magpies 28
Tries: Matt Lockyer 2, Josh Stowers 2, Ben Davidson, Darren Lawson
Goals: Matt Lockyer, Andrew Murdoch
defeated Wests Panthers 22
Tries: Brent Webb 2, Adam Carne, James Brown, Mark Eacott
Goals: James Brown
Venue: Suncorp-Metway Stadium
Date: Sun May 6
Comments: The Panthers led at all stages of this match, up until 6 minutes of fulltime, but were unable to hold out the Magpies in the final wash.  Wests led 14-10 at half-time and were up 22-20 in the 74th minute when Darren Lawson crashed over for a Magpies' try to put them in front for the first time in the match.  The Panthers threw everything at Souths, in the dying minutes, but Magpies' five-eighth Matt Lockyer scored his second try (against the run of play) to wrap up the game for the black-and-whites.
