Toowoomba have proven to be much too strong for Souths and recorded a comfortable 44-12 win at Davies Park. The Clydesdales led from start to finish and were never really troubled by the Magpies at any stage of the match. Souths gave it all their very best but were clearly outclassed by their opponents on the day.

Toowoomba got off to the perfect start when Stuart Kelly pounced on loose ball from a high bomb and scored under the posts, 2 minutes into the game. Moments late, they backed it up again with a great try to centre Brent Tate. Elia Tuqiri, cousin of Lote, split the Magpies defence apart and sprinted down the field before off-loading the ball to Tate, who placed the ball under the posts.

Things got went from bad to worse for the home side when the Clydesdales scored again in the 17th minute when talented hooker Michael Ryan crossing over for a well deserved try.

Just when they may cut loose, Toowoomba slackened off a bit and errors and ill-discipline (referee Tony Maksoud blew at least 8 penalties against the Clydesdales for the first half) started to slip into their game.  Eventually, after a weight of possession, Souths managed to post their first points of the match with Ross Chatfield crashing over besides the goal posts.

However, another poor defensive effort by the Magpies saw the Clydesdales extend their lead even further, just before half-time, when Ken McGuinness crossed over in the right-hand corner.  It was all too easy for McGuinness who just simply brushed off a couple of defenders to give Toowoomba a 20-6 lead at the break.

Toowoomba started exactly the same way as they did in the first half with Brent Tate crossing the try line for his second try of the afternoon, just two minutes after half-time.  Tries to Paul Carige and Elia Tuqiri extended the score line to 38-6 and it was looking like the Clydesdales would romp it home in the final 20 minutes of the match.

But, Souths dug deep and managed to allow Toowoomba to score only one more try for the rest of the match (Carige scored his second just before fulltime). The Magpies also scored their second try of the day when Second Rower Luke Dunphy crossed over the line. The final score line was a very convincing 44-12 win in the favour of Toowoomba.

The Clydesdales remain unbeaten for the year with 6 points and second behind Redcliffe on percentages.  Realistically, they should have won the match by more if they have not switched off a couple of times during the game and they also had a couple of tries disallowed by the referee.  Half-back Elia Tuqiri was the star for Toowoomba on the day.  Tuqiri created havoc all day for the Magpie defenders and set up many of the tries including one brilliant individual one of his own.  Young hooker Michael Ryan continues to show what a great talent he is and had the opposition at sixes and sevens with his darts from dummy half.  Experienced props Mark Corvo and Damon Keating were the pick of the forwards with both gaining great yardage in each of their hit-ups.

Souths gave it all their best but were clearly outclassed by their opponents.  Captain Mohammed Allouche led by example with some bruising defence and good hit-ups while Matt Lockyer and Nathan Roe tried their hardest in attack.  They found it difficult to match the Clydesdales' speed and strength and were subsequently whipped by their opposition.  The Magpies remain winless for the season and are at the bottom of the table on for-and-against.
