Norths have comfortably beaten Wests 50-20 at Purtell
Park on Saturday. The Devils were never really
troubled at all by the Panthers, whose defensive
effort has a lot less to be desired. The Panthers were
just simply dreadful and were not clearly the same
side that upset Ipswich, last week.
Norths jumped out to a 16-0 lead after 16 minutes but
lost their a way a bit by throwing forwards passes and
making silly errors. The Panthers struck back in 29th
minute with a try to Marc Fickling but the Devils
suddenly snapped back into action by crossed over for
two tries to take a 26-6 lead at half-time.
Both teams fumbled around for the first 10 minutes of
the second half but Norths clicked back into gear and
proceeded to demolish their tackle-shy opposition.
Tries came quick and fast for the Devils with Terry
Bensen (2), Dallas Johnson and Semi Tadulala all
crossing in the space of 16 minutes to put the
visitors up 50-6.
But the Panthers came back and added a bit of
respectability to the score-line when they crossed for
three late tries in the last 10 minutes of the match.
However, the Devils still ran out comfortable 50-20
winners and will now move into 3rd spot on the ladder
in front of East Coast, due to for-and-against.
In the lower grades, Norths proved to be much too
strong in A Grade winning 38-18 while their Colts side
crushed the Wests 44-18, in the top of the table
clash.
